Materials specialist provides customers with update on breadth of portfolio; highlights new, fast and easy system to request catheter related product samples

Tuesday September 24th, 2024: Materials specialist Junkosha has chosen Europe’s fastest growing medical device design and manufacturing event, Medical Technology Ireland, to present its widest range of fluoropolymer extrusion technologies. In addition to its market-leading Peelable Heat Shrink Tubing and Etched PTFE Liner products, Junkosha will use the event to showcase its first-class package of customer service options including free standard samples for testing, in-depth application support and short lead times for custom product requests.

Junkosha Peelable Heat Shrink Tubing offers solutions for interventional medical devices from micro-catheters to larger diameter catheter delivery systems, including structural heart and abdominal aortic aneurism (AAA) repair, as well as cut-to-length and slit options for a wide range of applications. Junkosha Peelable Heat Shrink Tubing offers expanded inner diameters ranging from 0.38 mm (0.0150”) to 11.43mm (0.4500”) with expansion ratios up to 1.8 times the original size. All have the key feature of being easy to remove from the catheter during reflow, needing only a single slit at one end to get it started. This solution reduces the total cost of ownership for catheter manufacturers by eliminating the skiving step, which increases throughput, improves yields and lowers inspection levels in a more ergonomically safe process. In addition, thanks to cut-to-length and slit options, customers have access to a wide range of custom solutions that can be used to attach complex shapes and constructions in processes including balloon mounting, catheter lamination, forming, tacking, masking, bonding parallel tubes and polymer jacket compression.

Alongside Peelable Heat Shrink Tubing will be the Junkosha Etched PTFE Liner range. Thanks to proprietary processing techniques, Junkosha Etched PTFE Liners provide considerable robustness and high tensile strength. They are available with ultra-thin walls and have superior consistency in elongation. These features contribute to the catheter’s flexibility, low profile and ultimately higher yields in the catheter manufacturing process. Standard wall thicknesses range from 25 μm (0.001") to 50 μm (0.002"). For custom sizes, wall thicknesses as low as 0.001" can be achieved. In addition, they incorporate a consistent etched surface treatment to provide confidence of adhesion during reflow even in the most demanding tapered catheter designs.
