Interconnect pioneers use premier electronics industry event to showcase wider digital cable solution capabilities

DesignCon stand number: 1060

January 27th, 2025 - Interconnect pioneers Junkosha have chosen North America’s largest chip, board and systems event, DesignCon 2025, to unveil its latest phase stable interconnect advancements including the MWX161, MWX001, MWX002 and MWX004, Junkosha® Microwave/mmWave Coaxial Cable Assemblies – all designed to cater to the demands of a 5G/6G digital future. Reaching up to the 67 GHz range, MWX161, now available with skew matching within 1psec, has not only been designed to make engineers’ lives easier when testing the signal integrity of printed circuit boards (PCB), it also easily connects to a multi-port Vector Network Analyser (VNA). This is due to the small diameter of the connectors. To add to its ease of connection, a torque driver is available to mount the interconnect on to the narrow pitch connector arrangement board.

"Signal-integrity engineers face the critical challenge of navigating an increasingly complex landscape to ensure high-speed signals traverse electronic systems without degradation," explains Dr. Richard Zai of Packet Micro Inc. "One significant issue is the path differences or skew between high-speed signals, which can substantially undermine signal integrity if not addressed early in the design process. Therefore, maintaining phase accuracy and stability in high-speed measurements is paramount. As data rates increase, the margin for error shrinks, necessitating the use of higher quality and more resilient interconnects to meet the growing demands of high-speed digital systems. For example, slim, flexible MWX161 cables are essential for making accurate, repeatable measurements with test probes."

Addressing these challenges requires cabling solutions that feature characteristics including an ability to consistently test signal integrity without affecting performance and high phase stability. For example, cabling solutions like Junkosha’s MWX004, the world’s first 145GHz flexible coaxial cable, is equipped with features including advanced phase stability, the highest performing dielectric material and high flex life thanks to Junkosha’s precision engineered EPTFE tape wrapping technology. This interconnect continues to push the boundaries beyond today’s needs to those of tomorrow, and a future that is connected far beyond the devices of today.

“We listen to our customers’ requirements as they seek to innovate in what is a continually changing landscape,” explains Tomohiro Ogawa, Product Manager for Junkosha. “Our new MWX161 interconnect is a result of a combination of our proprietary technology and the real-world needs that are fed back to us from research & development and in-line production testing. Typical uses for this cabling solution include testing signal integrity on PCBs; multiport VNAs where space between the cables is at a premium; narrow pitch RF matrix switchers that route RF signals between multiple inputs and multiple outputs; and connector device under test (DUT) boards which serve as an interface circuit between the automatic test equipment and the device under test.”
