Junkosha Demonstrates Innovative 2.5:1 Peelable Heat Shrink Tubing (PHST) Solution at MD&M West 2020 for first time
Junkosha showcases market-leading range of PHST solutions, innovative Multi Channel Transmission cabling and its Etched PTFE Liners at the world's largest medical design & manufacturing event
MD&M West: Stand number 2495
6th February 2020: Materials specialist and pioneer of peelable heat shrink tubing (PHST) technology, Junkosha, is using this year's MD&M West event to showcase its unique, industry-first, 2.5:1 FEP PHST solution. The product is leading Junkosha’s charge towards future tubing innovations. For the very first time, visitors to the Junkosha stand will be able to see a live demonstration of the shrinking process for themselves, providing the perfect illustration of the benefits and capabilities of PHST.
Junkosha's 2.5:1 PHST solution has been designed to provide catheter manufacturers with the highest shrink ratio currently possible in Peelable FEP thanks to its proprietary design techniques, enabling customers (in turn) to save time and money through a reduced number of shrink processes. In addition, thanks to PHST's “take-up”, it allows the use of cost-effective, lower tolerance, baseline materials in the manufacturing process, and enables the ability to reflow these easily into a single smooth construct. All this results in a reduced total cost of ownership for the catheter manufacturer, which in turn increases the margin available.
Josh Brenizer, Principle Research and Development Engineer at a major medical device provider, explains: “Junkosha’s 2.5:1 PHST allows me to design catheters with larger tapers, more consistent OD changes, and stock less heat shrink sizes in the lab as it covers a larger range of diameters. In addition, the peelable option reduces both time and scrap in my builds on the bench.”
As well as 2.5:1 PHST, Junkosha will be exhibiting a wide variety of innovative catheter-based solutions at MD&M West 2020. This includes its latest innovations in Etched PTFE Liners as well as the Multi-Channel Transmission cabling solution. The latter uses a cluster of simple microwires that are individually insulated with an innovative shielding/grounding construct to increase its signal capacity for a given size. This product is at the forefront of the move towards thinner, more flexible and higher data capacity catheters.
Yohei Washiyama, Leader of Junkosha’s Medical Products Group, explains: “We have a deep heritage in materials science and fluoropolymers, which means our solutions are at the leading edge of what is possible. At this year’s MD&M West, the full breadth of our innovative catheter-based products will be on show, including the first demonstration of our 2.5:1 PHST solution. As we head towards a future that incorporates active catheters, our aim is to consistently provide customers with the latest innovations that ultimately answer their unmet needs.”
MD&M West is the world’s largest medical technology event with more than 1,900 cutting-edge suppliers showcasing the latest solutions in medical device components, materials, plastics, contract manufacturing, manufacturing equipment, automation and research and development. Held between 11-13th February, MD&M West is located at the Anaheim Convention Centre in Anaheim, California.
